STRATEGIES GROUP CAME UP WITH WHEN USING JOLLY PHONICS THAT PROVE TO BE EFFECTIVE
When the groups were brainstorming and presenting lessons, these are some of the strategies they realized they could use:
Allow children to correct the teacher.
Make lessons non discriminatory – no boys vs girls
Ask for complete sentences to reinforce understanding of questions and proper usage of sounds.
Write a story together as a group lesson.
Use of Centers: Writing/playdoh/matching upper and lower case letters/listening center of jolly sounds&music/reading Jolly decodable books/phonics center using student guides provided in kit which incorporate blends/word tiles with checklists/letter center – using shaving cream or rediwhip to trace letters/phonics Bingo.
Use different colored “stickies” to indicate on a three fold strip, where the sound occurs (ie. MUD – the mmmm sound occurs at the beginning).
